The Power of Faith and the Power of Prayer: What Truly Matters?

Faith and prayer are often spoken of as powerful forces in many spiritual and religious traditions. People turn to faith for strength and to prayer for guidance or intervention and, answers. Yet, the question arises: which is it that holds the greater importance? Is it the faith itself, or the act of prayer? Or is it and should it be, some far greater focus for that attention? More importantly, should we not consider Who listens and responds to these expressions? This question shifts the focus from the acts themselves to the relationship behind them, which in fact, hold the greatest significance.

Understanding Faith and Prayer

Faith is often described as a deep trust or belief in something greater than oneself. It is a conviction that does not always require visible proof. Prayer, on the other hand, is an act of communication—speaking or thinking words directed toward a 'higher power', seeking help, expressing gratitude, or simply connecting.

There are many gods; there is but One, True and, Living God. In my journeys from pagan to Christian, I've learned this to be an absolute Truth.

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God" (Hebrews 10:31).

Faith can exist without prayer, people have faith in themselves, family, friends, any other source to be named; but, prayer more often, stems from faith. For example, a person may have faith in the goodness of life or a divine presence without regularly praying. Conversely, prayer without faith is empty and mechanical or as Jesus named them, 'vain repetitions'. Matthew 6:7 tells us these and our much speaking does not move God.

Faith moves God.

What faith?

Faith that believes that He is exactly Who He says He is.

He. Is.

"But without faith is is impossible to please Him for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). This entire chapter is Faith in action! Read it.

Therein lies a secret to prayer - First, believe that He. Is. Secondly, be sincere. Believers have to come to the place where they want to know Our Heavenly Father, He wants us to develop a relationship with Him and personally, I can strongly recommend it!

Faith In the Living God provides our foundation, the inner strength that sustains a person through challenges. Prayer is the expression of that faith, a way to reach out and engage with the Father of all lights.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above , and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17).

We can trust Him.

The Role of the One Who Hears and Answers

The most crucial aspect often overlooked is the recipient of faith and prayer. Who hears these prayers? Who responds to faith? This question points to the necessary relationship between the believer and God or you have no more than an idol of wood or stone made from the figments of one's own imagination. More on that later.

God as Father to us is the listener and responder in prayer if we pray according to His Will. Remember that part. The power of faith and prayer is not just in the believer’s heart or words but in our connection to Him. Without this connection, faith and prayer risk becoming self-contained acts without external influence or support. "You ask and receive not because you ask amiss that you may consume it up on your own lusts"(James 4:3) - you are asking God to bless what YOU want...lust of the eye, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Oops.

For example, in Christianity, faith is described as belief in God’s promises, and prayer is a way to communicate with God. The power lies only in the believer’s trust in God’s willingness to hear and act.

How Faith Shapes Prayer

Faith shapes the nature and effectiveness of prayer. When faith is strong, prayer becomes more than just words; it becomes a heartfelt conversation filled with trust and expectation.

Prayer as an Expression of Faith

Prayer can also deepen faith. When people pray regularly, they are more connected to God...we are communicating with Him, remember. This connection can reinforce their faith, creating a positive cycle.

When you trust God, you will talk with Him. When you talk with Him, you will learn of Him, grow and develop into the mature Christian He desires and hopes for us. May we find ourselves more sensitive daily to His calling our to us...

Practical Insights on Faith and Prayer

Understanding the importance of who hears and answers can change how people approach faith and prayer.

• Focus on Relationship: Instead of seeing prayer as a ritual or faith as blind belief, realize prayer as part of a relationship with The Great I AM.

  
  

• Prayer is communication: with God, sharing your deepest thoughts and person. He is listening, just speak. I strongly recommend learning to speak His word back to Him...He said remind Him. Do It!!

  
  

• Be Genuine: Authentic faith and prayer come from the heart. This sincerity will deepen your relationship with God and bring peace along with contentment.

  
  

• Expect Interaction: Believe that prayers are heard and that faith invites responses, even if they come in unexpected ways. Psalm

  
  

• Use Prayer for Guidance: Prayer can be a tool for reflection and decision-making, supported by faith in a higher wisdom. When praying for others, pray God's will be done, not what you want! This is a terrible and gross error in the Body of Christ. You do NOT pray your will on your loved ones, you pray God's Will Only Be Done. ~ Amen.

What Truly Matters

The power of faith and the power of prayer are not separate forces competing for importance. Instead, they work together within a relationship and communication between the Believer and The Father.

Faith provides the foundation of trust and belief. Prayer is the expression of that faith, a way to communicate and connect. The greatest importance lies in recognizing Who hears and answers these prayers, the Presence that responds to faith.

This understanding invites a deeper, more meaningful spiritual life. It encourages believers to nurture their faith, engage sincerely in prayer, and trust in the relationship that supports them.
